Bruins Start Trade Deadline Week By Sending Trent Frederic To Edmonton

And so it begins... Don Sweeney starts his sell job by dealing Trent Frederic and Max Jones to Edmonton in a three way trade with New Jersey. The Bruins retained 50% of Frederic's salary, with the Devils retaining 50% as well, leaving the Oilers on the hook for just under 600k. The return for the Bruins ends up being D Max Wanner (a 7th rounder in 2021 who is in the middle of his sophomore season in the AHL), a 2025 second round pick and a 2026 fourth round pick. A decent return for Frederic in a down year (as the Bruins wanted to get as close to a 1st rounder as possible). I'm actually surprised it's Edmonton and not St. Louis, I thought Don would send Trent home but I imagine they'll revisit on July 1. Frederic is still week to week but he should be ready for the playoffs. This will be the Bruins first time selecting in the 2nd round since 2022. Trade Grade: B+

It never sounded like Frederic was close to an extension in Boston, he's had a bit of a down year (but you can say that about several players not named David Pastrnak this season) with just 8G, 7A for 15 points in 57 GP, after having a career year last year of 18G, 22A for 40 points. Wishing Freddy all the best in Edmonton and hope they make a deep run. Freddy Fight Club forever.

I tweeted this morning that the Bruins need to sell so they don't let any assets walk at the end of the year (like DeBrusk did last year), but I'm also not keen on Don Sweeney being the guy to sell. But alas here we are. Should be quite a week, I'll have a separate blog on this but some players that could still be moved come Friday at 3pm include Justin Brazeau, Brandon Carlo, and Morgan Geekie. I ultimately don't think they trade Brad Marchand (week-to-week), but crazier things have happened in Bruins Land. They need to re-tool and not rebuild, and this is where it begins. Buckle up!
