The Mavericks Season From Hell Continues As Kyrie Irving Is Now Out For The Season With A Torn ACL

It's been well documented that the last month has been nothing short of basketball hell for the entire Dallas Mavericks fanbase. Every day is a new kick to the dick, and the crazy thing is it's all self inflicted by the team. This entire situation is their own doing, and just when you thought maybe the Basketball Gods were going to let up and finally show mercy on this fanbase, in reality things have gone to a whole new level.
Watching in real time you knew something wasn't right, and I think most people, even non-Mavs fans were hoping it was just going to be a hyperextension or something along those lines and while it would suck to be without Kyrie, it wouldn't be season ending.
Unfortunately, the worst case scenario is now reality. A torn ACL, season over. Another absolute gut punch to this Mavs fanbase that is already going through hell.
Say what you want about Kyrie, but there's no denying that ever since he became a Mav he's been for the most part an ideal teammate and leader with the on the court production to match. There's been no drama, no off the court bullshit, no throwing teammates under the bus, you could make the case that nobody has turned the public perception around them more than Kyrie. I don't think many expected that trade/signing to work, and there's no denying that it has from pretty much every angle.
At the same time, this is also part of the story when it comes to Kyrie as a player. There's always the risk of injury, and it's why so many are confused as to why Nico Harrison would punt on his 25 year old franchise player to put all his stock into a injury plagued Anthony Davis and Kyrie, especially as they enter their 30s. Ever since the trade and AD went down in Game 1, Kyrie has had to carry more of the load, and when an older player with an injury history has to do that, unfortunate things like this can sometimes happen.
Given when it took place and how long a recovery for a torn ACL is, this is now something that will most likely carry into the majority of next season, which is what makes this whole thing so devastating for Mavs fans. Haven't they suffered enough? Now the only positive thing they had left from the last few years is out for the year/a chunk of next season too? God damn the Basketball Gods are ruthless. What does this mean for a potential extension? Remember, Kyrie has just 1 more year on his deal, and now he's about to be sidelined for the majority of it.
Between the Luka trade, AD getting hurt in Game 1, Lively getting hurt, Gafford getting hurt, now Kyrie, I mean I can't remember a run like this where all this shit happened to one team/fanbase in the course of a month where you can't go a day without some sort of disaster whether it's PR bullshit from the team, or serious injuries to important players on the basketball side. The whole thing just sucks.
You forget, but the Mavs were the 4 seed before Luka got traded. With him back and healthy, there was no reason to think the Mavs couldn't make another Finals run. Now? A month later? They're in NBA purgatory which is by far the worst place to be in the NBA. Not good enough to contend, but too good to be in the Lottery. Not only that, their future pick situation is a disaster as well
The whole thing sucks and I can't help but feel for Mavs fans. This is some of the darkest shit you're ever going to see, and at this point the entire franchise might be cooked. The team is a disaster, the fanbase is done with the franchise, all for what? Because Nico Harrison thought Luka was fat and didn't like that he drank beer and smoked hookah? Yikes.
You never like to see a player go down with a season ending injury, especially when that player was having an awesome year. What a bummer.
