Pardon My Take Pitches NBA Commissioner Adam Silver On Their Idea Of The 'Fight-A-Fan' Rule

On today's Pardon My Take... COMMISSIONER ADAM SILVER! The man in charge of the National Basketball Association was generous enough to spend some time with Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter on the show to talk All-Star Weekend, what being a Commissioner entails, how he’s trying to make the league better for viewers, the Luka trade, plus some dumb rule changes they pitched him.

One of those aforementioned rule changes involves the player-fan relationship. For years, Big Cat has been vocal about players getting the chance to defend themselves when fans can get out of hand at NBA games...

Sounds pretty straightforward, right? So, the opportunity for Big Cat to finally get the ball rolling on this journey came on today's show. What did Commissioner Adam Silver think about this brilliant idea? Let's just say we have some work to do...

Big Cat: Every single player, when the season starts, gets one chance to call out any fan they want, and they just get to beat the f*ck out of them in the middle of the court. And once they use it, they can't use it again for the rest of the year. Thoughts on that rule?

Adam Silver: Not a good idea.

Big Cat: Listen, you're not seeing the vision. When you see Kevin Durant and you decide to say something really mean to him, you're like, "Wait, does he have his one fight-a-fan left this year?"

Adam Silver: You lost me on the "beat the sh*t of him" part. I was with you until, alright you can single out one fan and then review that fan's conduct.

Big Cat: Think about the ratings though! Mr. Commissioner, think about the ratings. They're like, "We're going to Sacramento, and DeMar DeRozan has called someone out from the 10th row, and they're stopping the game to fight!"

Adam Silver: We'll bring a cage. Is the fan allowed to fight back?

Big Cat: Yes, so that's also part of it.

Adam Silver: Oh, you know, I didn't fully consider your idea.

Ladies and gentlemen, you know what that sounds like… MOMENTUM! After an immediate NO from Commissioner Silver, the fellas started talking specifics and hypotheticals about this potential rule.

As stated earlier in the interview, there have been some ideas out there that sounded silly at first, only to be carefully examined by Commissioner Silver and his team, so why not this one? As long as fans are on their best behavior, there shouldn't be any issues. What could go wrong?
