Cooper Flagg Will Go Down As The Best Freshman In Duke Basketball History
Listen I'll be the first to admit that a show coming out on Thursday about last Saturday's event of Coach Cal returning to Kentucky is NOT IDEAL. But we had some travel and scheduling issues that meant we couldn't film on Monday....and what were we going to do, not talk about it? Everyone that follows the sport knows that last Saturday was one of the best days of the season: Cal returns, Duke/UNC, Toppin getting ejected, Tennessee beating Florida without Milicic and Zeigler, etc etc etc. So take a listen to the latest episode of the Mark Titus Show if you want to hear out thoughts on all of that.
Anyways, one tidbit that Titus drops while discussing Duke's blowout win over UNC is that he is proclaiming Cooper Flagg's freshman season in Durham better than Zion Williamson's. The question is: is the hype around Cooper the same? Doesn't seem like it, although Cooper is putting up 20 points per game, grabbing 8 boards, dishing out a handful of assists, and locking down on defense. He will likely lead this dominant Duke team to the Final 4 and could very well be cutting down the nets as a National Champion. Where would that compare to Anthony Davis as the best freshman basketball season in the history of the sport? On the surface level it appears it still won't surpass it, but Duke is 20-2 right now. What if they finish, what, 36-2? Would be tough to say they're not at least equal if that happens....
