Update! UMass Is Stepping Up And Rightfully Paying A Kid $10k For Hitting A Halfcourt Shot, Because The Company Refused To Pay Him Out
In case you missed it yesterday, we had this story going viral. Kid at the UMass women's game drilled a layup, free throw, three and halfcourt shot to win $10k. Insurance company is trying to screw him and not pay him the $10k by saying his foot was on the line during the halfcourt shot. Problem with that is there was 1) time on the clock still and 2) ruled good.
Don't worry though, that company offered him a sick deal consisting of a $100 gift card, tickets to the UMass men's and women's game (1 each) and a swag bag (as long as the items were still around). Oh and the best part? Offered a chance to do the same contest to win $1,000. Any time you get offered something 10 times less than the money you're owed, you gotta take it.
Most people were on the side of just pay the kid the $10k. He got all the shots in one attempt. Dude could play it looked like. $10k to a company like that is nothing, to a college kid it means you're in for one hell of a night. I remember when my buddy at UK had a similar challenge and won a few thousand dollars for doing it. Great bar night.
Anyways, luckily UMass is stepping up here:
Good, that's the way it should be. I mean, UMass shouldn't have to pay $10k, the company should, but at least treat the kid right. Not to mention it's positive news for UMass. If I were UMass, I'd just remember I have a terrifying man as my head coach and send him to collect the money

This is good juju before UMass plays La Salle on Sunday.
