Welcome To College Hoops Rivlaries: Austin Peay's Coach, Wearing Military Fatigues, Refused To Shake Hands So He Could Stare Down The UNA Bench
This very well may be the most hilarious and absurd image in college basketball this season. I like Corey Gipson, dude can coach his ass off. I've blogged about him before, he wears the fatigues every game in honor of Fort Campbell and the proximity to the school. So this look isn't new.
But we gotta talk about this whole scenario and apparently the most hated rivalry in college basketball. That's right. Austin Peay vs North Alabama. This is why we watch mid-majors. This is why we scout future 15 seeds in the NCAA Tournament. Because you never know when it's going to lead to AD's getting shoved and coach fights. This all started a few weeks ago in the first game:
I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm now fully invested in the A-Sun Tournament. Mostly because I want these teams to play each other again. I love when there's animosity in sports, I love it even more when it's the most random mid-major combo you can think of. What was the end goal here of the no handshake? Trying to intimidate UNA or show that there's a rivalry? Sure, I guess. Ridiculous all the way around and why I love this stupid sport so much.
