Eagles Owner Jeffrey Lurie Says He's Not Interested In Buying The Crusty Celtics

A report came out last week that Eagles' owner Jeffrey Lurie was in the mix to buy the Boston Celtics. Obviously the connection there being the fact that Jeffrey Lurie grew up in Boston, went to college in Boston, and even named his production company after Boston. So you could see why folks in Boston would be giddy at the prospect of a kid from Boston with a championship pedigree coming back to buy the Celtics one day. Heck, the report alone made poor little Greenie cum all over himself.

Jizz everywhere. But alas, it was too good to be true.

Jeffrey Lurie on report linking him to buying the Celtics: "No, I'm not really interested in acquiring another sports team. I think it's connected because they're my childhood team. I've got a tremendous amount of respect for their whole culture. I sort of see it as like a kindred soul in the NBA. Wyc (Grousbeck) has been an outstanding owner. I love the way they've developed that team. And we've got to celebrate so many banners over the years. It's not something that's top of mind. And my whole focus is on my love of the Eagles and to win another Super Bowl for Philadelphia. And I'm obsessed."

Bang. Mr Lurie told the Celtics to take whatever interest they thought he'd have in purchasing them, and to shove it directly up their own ass. Maybe not in those exact words, but you get the point.

Jeffrey Lurie isn't like other sports team owners who shall not be named. He's not the type of guy who can own multiple teams at the same time--especially in opposing cities--because he is way too obsessed with his current team. Some guys are able to own multiple teams because they don't actually give a shit about any of them, and just treat them as investments. But Jeffrey Lurie simply loves the Eagles too much to ever even consider owning another team. He's more of a Philly guy these days anyway. Seems like he was born and raised in Bryn Mawr, went to Penn, and named his production company after the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia. Boston can take a hike.

And chances are he's not interested in buying the Celtics because it's pretty apparent that he needs all of his funds available to build a new stadium in Philadelphia.

It's pretty simple. The Sixers were told to stay in the South Philly Sports Complex because they're going to renovate the whole area. Sixers and Flyers getting a new stadium. New shops and restaurants going up around the area. Eagles building a dome, or at least a retractable roof, to host the Super Bowl at some point around 2030. Which opens up the way for the Eagles to  become the 3rd team to play a Super Bowl in their home stadium.
