Having His Girlfriend Redact a Romantic Card He Gave Her is the Most Belichickian Move Ever

Note to all unhinged, nihilistic celebrities trying to drive civilization faster down the superhighway toward damnation: This is how you present the woman you love on a red carpet. With dignity, respect, elegance and style.

Bill Belichick has obviously entered a very different phase of his journey. Both in his profession and his personal life:

And as I've said repeatedly and will continue to say, I'm all for it. Call me a hopeless romantic and I won't tell you you're wrong. I'm in love with their love story. From the RomCom-style Meet Cute on a plane flight to the way they've already become the "It" couple of Chapel Hill society, it's all been astonishingly beautiful.

Yet, any time a guy you like and care about goes through such a profound change in his personal, it's only natural to look for signs that he has changed. Regardless of what you think of your friend's girlfriend, it's always a red flag if he stops acting like himself. We've all had that buddy who gets all weird around his girlfriend. Dressing different. Combing his hair different. Watching his language. Not letting you call him by the nickname you've been using forever. Suddenly liking movies and music he never would've tolerated before, just because they're her thing. That's a five-alarm warning sound every time it happens. And those relationships never work out.

Well to all my fellow fans of these two crazy, heart-eyed kids, I'm happy to report my close, personal buddy from those times I used to meet with him on WEEI Patriots Monday 10 years ago hasn't changed an iota. He's still the same dude he was in the early 2000s when he was flying free agents out to Foxboro commercial - in coach - and meeting them in some moderately priced, casual dining joint:

But more than anything, I take comfort in knowing he still understands the value of controlling the message, keeping things in house, and above all, secrecy.

Here's what Jordon Hudson posted on Instagram:

This young lady has learned well. The redacted part of that card is the most Belichick move you'll ever see. Such a part of his core philosophy that it's like she's been working with him for decades (which is obviously mathematically impossible). Even in a romantic gesture, you've got to keep that competitive edge. Love is the ultimate copycat league. You can't reveal too much and lose that competitive advantage over other men in committed relationships. I bet the opening line in that card was some new innovative Love Language he's been gameplanning. One that no woman has a defense for. And those red lines are the equivalent of putting the play sheet over your mouth as you call in the play. While all the rest of us lesser dating/married men are still operating old systems with outdated playbooks that he's been coaching circles around for years.

So well done by Jordon. She's a quick study and learning from the best. And for me personally, I'm gratified to be seeing this for the first time on February 3rd. First, it gives me the chance to start prepping for my own Sweetest Swetheart Irish Rose's Valentine's Day. But more to the point, it's a reminder that two of Bill's greatest game plans ever fell on this very date:

Speaking as someone who fell hard for this man a quarter of a century ago, and a fellow Bridgewater State University alum, I couldn't be happier for them both.
