The Lead Actress of 'Emilia Perez' Says The Hate They’re Getting Is The Type Of Thing That Lead To Holocaust

ICYMI, Emila Perez had the distinct honor of being the second most nominated movie in Oscars history. I touched on it in my Oscars recap and Bobby Fox had a good blog on it here.

The reaction to this movie goes back to a cycle I've brought up in a few movie related blogs before.

It's ass and it makes people dislike movies even more. Regular people don't like Emilia Perez (2.6 on Letterboxd), general critics don't even seem that enamored (at 76% on RT, it's the lowest rated of the Best picture noms), and above all, Mexico HATES it. And it's easy to see why! It is a French-made movie, filmed in France with an almost entirely non-Mexican main cast (Gascon herself is from Spain) that is a musical set around their mass-disappearance epidemic. None of that is good!!!

So, you're the star of a bad movie. Netflix bought that movie for $12 million and (allegedly) spent several times that on it's FYC (for your consideration) campaign. With the pockets of all the important people in the movie award business lined, this movie is now the second most nominated movie in Oscars history despite nobody seeming to like it. What is the one thing you probably shouldn't do? Evoke the holocaust. I can promise you that nothing, and i mean nothing, going on in Hollywood is going to make that comparison work. Especially when this is up against two holocaust-related movies!

My advice to anybody involved in this movie is simple: Just eat shit. Your ass is in the jackpot and fighting against this only make it worse.
