Josh Brolin Says He Is Going To Quit Acting After Denis Villeneuve Wasn’t Nominated For ‘Dune: Part Two’ At The Oscars

It's a sad day and a bad day for fans of Josh Brolin's acting career - as it may now be over thanks to The Academy.

The 'Dune' actor says he is apparently going to quit his day job after Denis Villeneuve was once again snubbed of a 'Best Director' nominee at the Oscars for 'Part Two'. Brolin threatened to do as much in an interview with Variety in 2024, stating: “If he doesn’t get nominated this year, I’ll quit acting. It was a better movie than the first one. When I watched it, it felt like my brain was broken open. It’s masterful, and Denis is one of our master filmmakers. If the Academy Awards have any meaning whatsoever, they’ll recognize him.” - but unfortunately the idiots that vote on these things still got it wrong.

Not only should Denis Villeneuve have been nominated for his PHENOMENAL work on 'Dune: Part Two' - the best movie of 2024 in my opinion - I thought this was the year he finally should've taken that 'Best Director' Oscar home. I believe of those nominees, he made the most ambitious and hard-to-nail movie by far, and it's a massive, massive swing and a miss by The Academy for not including him here; especially while they're trying to cater to the public audience more.

Side note: I also thought the snubbing of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for their 'Challengers' score (which won the Golden Globe) was pretty egregious as well - it was one of the best aspects of that whole production and set the tone for the story perfectly.

Instead you've got movies like 'Emelia Pérez' picking up nominations in every category (they have the most this year with a whopping 13 noms!) despite nobody EXCEPT the Academy really liking it! Even the good reviews are mid at best!

….and I can't imagine why that's the case after watching this clip….

Just kidding - that looks like the worst movie ever made! I cannot believe the way they sing "From penis to vagiiiiinaaaa!" with a straight face there. It's not even like White Sox Dave's new song where the lyrics are ridiculous nonsense but the melody is at least tolerable. It sounds like a track made by somebody who has never tried writing a song before….cadence all over the place, barely any semblance of a time signature, sung poorly, nothing catchy about it, etc.

Plus, the audience 'Emelia Pérez' was seemingly made for is currently rejecting it because of the director's ignorance towards the subjects/location of the movie and Zoe Saldana's apparently-bad Spanish (which I obviously can't verify/speak on)….

Ridiculous. Hopefully 'Emelia Pérez' doesn't steal too many Oscars this year and our pal (and Deadline film reporter) Justin Kroll is right about the 'Dune' movies just following the 'Lord of the Rings' blueprint….

Denis Villeneuve is coming for that 'Best Director' Oscar - you just wait. To borrow a quote from one of Josh Brolin's other characters….he's inevitable. Hell - this might've just lit a fuse under him to go even bigger, badder, and crazier for 'Dune: Messiah'.

Still though, to see him not get recognized for it here after crafting sequences as good as this is brutal….

Oh, and fear not - I think Josh Brolin was kidding when he mentioned quitting acting. Pretty sure we'll see him again.
