Robert Pattinson Loves ‘Jackass’ And Wants To Play Steve-O In A Biopic
After multiple delays and setbacks, 'MICKEY 17' - Bong Joon Ho's next film (and follow-up to his Best Picture Winner: 'Parasite') finally hits theaters this March, and the press tour for it is already off and running!
Just yesterday, Robert Pattinson said he almost based his character in the movie's voice on Steve-O, adding that he "love[s] Jackass" - but it didn't quite work out. Pattinson even claimed "[he's] ready" if they ever made a Steve-O biopic; and let's be honest - if you know anything about Steve-O's life story, you know they probably should make that biopic.
I don't quite know whether or not we can actually believe any of this, though, being Pattinson lies in his interviews all the time. He told GQ that he sometimes "just makes something up in order to say anything at all" a few years ago, and recently went viral for this quote about making up a story where he witnessed a clown die in an explosion as a child....
Pretty hilarious. Honestly though, after hearing his voice in the trailer for 'MICKEY 17' - I think I could buy that he was originally going the Steve-O route. It's still a bit weird and gravelly and in a similar direction.
I also have no idea what to think about the movie after watching that trailer….I've got faith in Bong Joo Ho and Robert Pattinson's talent, but it just looks incredibly bizarre - and the delays don't make me feel great!
If you didn't check it out/can't watch for some reason, 'MICKEY 17' is a sci-fi movie that seemingly revolves around Robert Pattinson's character, Mickey, going out to space and becoming a test dummy of sorts. Every time he dies on a test, he's brought back to life - until eventually, he wakes up next to a double/clone of himself which leads to a Pattinson v Pattinson fight, hijinks, and I'm sure a whole lot more. It's very strange, but again - considering the resumes Bong Joo Ho/Pattinson have built over the last decade, I'll give this movie a fair shake in March.
I'm almost positive Robert Pattinson was joking when he mentioned wanting to play Steve-O, but he definitely loves himself a weird passion project, and after 'Good Time' I genuinely believe he could play anyone/anything in the world - even the shark from 'JAWS'. Pattinson's performance in that movie singlehandedly convinced me that we were in good hands when he was cast as Batman all those years ago, despite the character he plays being the complete polar opposite of Bruce Wayne.
If you haven't seen 'Good Time', I highly recommend it. It's the movie the Safdie Brothers made right before 'Uncut Gems' and it's absolutely batshit crazy - and even more anxiety-inducing than 'Uncut Gems' in my opinion. It follows a couple of brothers from Queens (Robert Pattinson/Benny Safdie) on the run after a bank robbery, and they just make bad decision after bad decision after bad decision for the entire runtime of the movie. Pattinson's character is the scummiest douchebag protagonist you could ever imagine and he plays him so well he should've been nominated for an Oscar in 2017. It's insane.
So yeah - bring on the Pattinson/Steve-O movie, and I'll be first in line.
