The Raiders May Have Unintentionally Selected the Wrong Byron Young in the 2023 NFL Draft

If this actually happened, it's one of the most incompetent and hilarious things a professional sports franchise has ever done. I hope more than anything this is true.

Two Byron Youngs in the same draft class who were both defensive linemen in the SEC would be an acceptable mix-up from a fan. Maybe even a media member. An NFL front office, however, not so much.

I don't think there will ever be a way to prove this because nobody involved in a mistake of that magnitude would ever admit to it — at least not while they're still trying to be employed in football — but it probably makes more sense that there was a fuck-up than that the Raiders drafted a defensive tackle with a late round grade in the third round when they needed an edge rusher. And if that's what happened, it's honestly just as incompetent.

The good Byron Young said last year the Raiders originally texted his agent when they were on the clock before informing him they were actually drafting the other Byron Young.

If you're a Raiders fan, would you rather have your team draft a shitty player as a fuck-up when they thought they were drafting a good one or just have the front office draft a guy with a UDFA grade in the third round who was cut a year later? Tough call.
