Surviving Barstool S4 Ep. 14 | It's A Man's GameWATCH NOW

Ja Morant's Poster On Victor Wembanyama Is The Greatest Dunk You'll Ever See That Didn't Actually Count

As the self appointer evaluator of all things poster dunks in the NBA, we have an interesting case on our hands coming out of San Antonio. For all the years I've been doing this, we've covered every type of poster imaginable. The Ant over John Collins, countless Ja Morant dunks, Aaron Gordon pulling off such an incredible dunk he made a diamond chain out of it, we've seen throw in posters that you had to take down to the pixel to see if any sort of finger made contact with the rim before you could give it an accurate score. We've seen it all.

What I don't think we've ever had is a vicious poster that comes after the whistle. A dead ball poster. One that does not count, but at the same time is so awesome you simply cannot ignore it.

I mean HOLY SHIT

Part of me says well if it doesn't count and the play was dead, should it even really count as a poster? But when you watch the play both guys are still clearly engaged and playing through the stoppage, and plus it was such a nasty dunk by Ja that my heart wants to say fuck it, it counts. Put it on his highlight tape. Whenever you see those plays in any sort of highlight package it's not like you're aware of the situation taking place in that game. You just focus on the awesome dunk so you know what? That's what I'm going to do.

Given that Wemby is not only a giant but such an incredible rim protector, I can only imagine there are a bunch of guys that want to earn the badge of getting one over Wemby. It's unavoidable at this level, everyone gets got at some point, and given how many shots he challenges, there will be more Wemby posters. We sort of had one the other week with Coby White

but he was technically half a step late so that wasn't a pure poster like what you just saw Ja pull off.

Speaking of Ja, I think it's fair to say this man is a big fat liar. Liar liar pants on fire!! Remember this?

Well since Morant supposedly gave up dunking, he seems to be doing a lot of shit like this

You combine that with what we're seeing tonight, and the guy cannot stop dunking and you know what? I've never been so happy that a professional athlete lied to me as a fan than I am with Ja Morant lying about dunking. Ja Morant in game dunks are AWESOME and a big reason why he's must watch TV. Granted I also don't have a rooting interest in his health or the Grizzlies as a whole, so really I'm just in it for the entertaining factor and Ja Morant pulling off crazy ass dunks over everything and anything in his path is pretty damn entertaining.

So in terms of an official ruling, I'm not sure we can count it as the Dunk Of The Year or anything like that. That doesn't mean we can't appreciate the dunk, but it's sort of the the IST. We all saw the game happen, but there's no record of it outside of the video highlights. Those two points will not exist in the NBA history books, and that's pretty unfortunate.
