Kevin Love Had The Perfect Description For Just How Fucked The Heat's Second Half Was In Their Loss To The Clippers
While most of the attention and storylines surrounding the Miami Heat have to do with the Jimmy Butler trade saga, you sometimes forget that this team actually plays basketball on a nightly basis. As it stands today, the Heat sit at 20-18 and in 7th, but are just 1.5 games out of a top 4 seed. That's partially why all of this Butler nonsense is so confusing. It's not like the Heat are a 10 win Lottery team right now, they are still very much in the mix! Not only that, guys like Tyler Herro are having a breakout season to the point where it's pretty difficult to keep him off the All Star team given how he's playing.
Given that the Heat are technically still in the mix in the East, their current 6 game West Coast road trip is pretty important. These are usually the tests where you find out a lot about yourself as a team, and entering last night the Heat actually hadn't been too terrible! A 3-1 record so far with a tough 5 point OT loss to the Kings (who have won 7 straight) is nothing to sneeze at, even if those wins came against GS/UTA/POR. You never apologize for wins.
They wrap things up with a little LAC/LAL stay in LA, and now that Kawhi is back it was another good test. That defense is legit, Harden and Normal Powell are having great years, and that's before you even introduce Kawhi to the mix. For half of the game, the Heat were surviving. A big 35 point quarter to open led to them having a narrow 5 point lead at the half led by Herro's 18. Nothing crazy, but a win at that moment given the circumstances.
What happened next over the following 24 minutes? You don't need me to tell you, allow Kevin Love to tell you
It's topical, hilarious, and very, very true. In all honestly, I can't think of a better description of the Heat's second half than the route Love went with. What else would you call this?
And sure, it wasn't 1,000 guys all taking their turn on the Heat, but it may as well have been. Allowing 66 points on 54/50% with 9 3PM is pretty terrible. Then on the other end, you're throwing up 41/37% splits with 11 TOs. The Heat lost the fastbreak points battle 22-2. From up 5 to down by as many as 19. The Clippers came out in the second half and did not hold back. There was no lube, no foreplay, no nothing. Again, that's Kevin Love saying it, not me. The sad part is Kawhi only played 6 minutes!
I'll be honest, when I first saw that tweet I had to double check that I wasn't getting NBACentel'd, but one look at his IG confirmed that it is in fact real. To me, that makes me love it even more. Listen, things around MIA are a bit of a disaster right now, and sometimes the best cure for these tense moments is laughter. If you can't laugh at yourself, what's the point? Blowing a game on the road like the Heat did in that second half is the perfect opportunity to make a joke like this in an effort to change the vibes. Lord knows those vibes are in the toilet right now with the Heat, so shoutout Kevin Love for not only being honest, but being a leader. Doing whatever he can do lighten the mood and maybe change things up a little bit. As we know, laughter cures all.
