Walmart Has Changed Its Logo for the First Time Since 2008 and Went a Daring New Direction (It's the Exact Same Logo)

This is Walmart's introduction of its refreshed identity and new logo for the first time in nearly 20 years. "But that looks exactly like Walmart's current logo," you ponder as you search for what is different about this one. That's because there is virtually nothing different about it.

Very cool, Walmart. We all see the new direction the company is going with this re-brand and everyone is going to be reinvigorated by your commitment to innovation.

All I can think about when companies do this is the fact that this cost seven figures. Some Joe Schmo at whatever ad agency was able to come up with this brilliant new logo will send his children to college because of this one project. It's a money laundering scheme.

In fairness, I guess Walmart did actually go quite a new direction with the wordmark. And that new direction was taking the wordmark they already had, highlighting it and hitting "Bold."

Kudos to all the people who got rich off this. America is a wonderful place if you can get yourself into the right professions. I'd put corporate branding consultant right up there with fired college football coach.
