Nick Castellanos Says That Jose Iglesias Should've Been The NL MVP Instead Of Shohei Ohtani And He Makes A Pretty Convincing Argument
Can the Phillies please trade Nick Castellanos because it really sucks to root against someone I like so much. He was already incredible as MLB's Angel of Death that would hit a deep drive into left field immediately after something super serious happened. But I need that beautiful man shipped out of Philly ASAP now that he is dropping truth bombs about how Candelita is actually the NL MVP instead of the first ever 50/50 player in baseball history.
To be honest, Castellanos makes some pretty good points. Anybody that follows baseball knows that the season is about so much more than counting stats. Sure it's great to have a guy that can rack up over 100 home runs and steals combined. HOWEVAH, those numbers only go so far during a 162 game marathon.
25 guys grinding every day in the cold then the heat then the cold again aren't fueled by WAR, OPS, or any other fancy acronyms a bunch of nerds came up with. But I'll take OMG over all of them because a successful baseball season is about vibes. Keeping the fellas loose. Everybody being in the right mindset to play the most difficult game on the planet day in and day out. And as someone that just witnessed the 2024 Mets go from the darkness of the first two months of the season where one of their owns players said they were the worst team in baseball to the end of the season where they were the magical team built on good juju that were two games away from the World Series, I cosign everything Castellanos says. That Mets team was so magical, it made Frank The Tank a positive fan!
Again, you can show me all the historic numbers Shohei Ohtani put up on the latest version of the Dodgers Big Blue Machine. But those stats seem pretty cold and hollow when you see what Jose's song, let alone steadying presence in the infield, did for a franchise that has been a blackhole for happiness year in and year out since the Miracle of 86 happened.
Also as much as I love OMG with all my soul, the Mets have to move on from it this year. You can maybe play it when something really cool happens or if Jose Iglesias returns then has a big highlight. But that is the song of the magical 2024 run. Now if the Mets end up riding last year's incredible turnaround to a World Series over the next few years, you can make a case that OMG is also the song of the Mets return to becoming a champion. If that happens, Jose Iglesias have his number retired and there's a case to be made Cooperstown. But for now, we'll settle with him being the rightful 2024 NL MVP according to a fellow ball player that saw the magic up close and personal with his own eyes.
