The Browns Are Reporting....In Early January....That Deshaun Watson Has Suffered A Setback In His Achilles Recovery
Am I taking crazy pills or is January 6th a wild time to announce that Deshaun Watson has suffered a setback....? I'm not necessarily sure what the term "setback" means in terms of a torn Achilles, but it seems a little fishy to need to let the public know about this before the current season ends, let alone being 8 months away from the next one beginning. I'm not definitively saying that anything nefarious went on here, but I'm also not saying there isn't any truth to the memes making their way around Browns Twitter right now....
I'm not the smartest person in the world when it comes to NFL rules and regulations regarding salary caps, but it sounds like we get some cap relief should Deshaun start the year on the PUP list? And with the Browns now having the #2 pick in the upcoming NFL draft due to the beautiful victory yesterday from the New England Patriots, it appears the door is very wide open to make the decision to go forward with a rookie QB. (To be clear, I don't like that idea, but it seems more and more possible by the day that this is where the organization is headed). Like...is this true?
So the Browns could draft Cam Ward, PUP List Deshaun, and then eventually buy out his contract and move on? Again, I would rather trade back and let someone else take Ward / Sanders, receive the haul, still get Will Campbell from LSU to anchor the line for the future, and then find a different QB to roll with. But if the goal is to move on from Deshaun immediately, it appears we have our path. Because, as Andrew Berry says, "the trade hasn't gone as we anticipated"
I can't believe that Andrew Berry and Kevin Stefanski are going to survive the hands down worst trade in NFL history. But here we are. Sticking with our GM. Sticking with our Head Coach. (I like both of them). And now potentially moving on from Deshaun and and bringing in a new franchise QB to play alongside some very good players surrounding him. At least that would bring some sort of excitement back to a franchise that appears to be drowning.
**PS: What was the setback????? Dude's been pretty active on his Instagram story lately!
