Thank You Mark Pope - Kentucky Basketball Is Finally Good And Fun Again, The Way It Should Be
I owe an apology to Mark Pope. When he was the name that was announced as Kentucky's next head coach, I was skeptical. We really missed out on Dan Hurley and Scott Drew and then went to Mark Pope. Good reminder that I'm an idiot and many others are idiots because Mark Pope is a genius. Correction, he's a genius who coaches his ass off every single big game. Coming off that loss to Ohio State (with a whatever game after) and starting the war that is SEC basketball? No problem.
It's not just Koby Brea being the best shooter in the country. It's the fact that the first person Mark Pope had to get was Lamont Butler, the most underrated player in all of America. The guy just shows up and makes plays. He flipped the game in the first half.
Lamont Butler is doing all of this with people saying he's not that great offensively. Knock down a couple threes, save the game, dictate the tempo, all good stuff! Then you have Andrew Carr who was lost for most of the game, then reminded everyone he's the best clutch player in America.
All I know is Kentucky basketball is good and fun again, the way it should be. The way it was when Mark Pope played here. The way it was when John Calipari first took over. We're back to being what we should be - must watch TV, the college basketball program of America. Mark Pope did that. This isn't the most talented team, it doesn't matter. He knows how to pull the strings perfectly. He's the reason we have wins over Duke, Gonzaga and Florida so far this season. He's the reason we're a top-10 team in the country.
Thank you, Mark Pope.
PS: Is this good?
