No-Brainer: The PGA Tour Is Reportedly Looking At Changing The Tour Championship To A Bracket-Style Event, Give Us Match Play
No-brainer. I don't know one single person who likes the starting strokes format of the Tour Championship right now. It's whatever, it's been around a few years, it's not working. Give us match play. I will scream this until I die, the PGA Tour needs at least one match play event during the year. We lost it in Austin, makes even more sense to make the Tour Championship a bracket event. People fucking love brackets. Give people byes and let people yell about rust vs rest. Give us upsets and all the stuff we're used to when we see a bracket.
It's not a secret that the PGA Tour is stuck ending its season going up against football. It's why they moved the schedule around to try and not fight it as much. Throwing in another stroke play tournament over the course of 4 days doesn't move the needle. It's what we know, it's what we see all the time. I don't care if it's traditional match play or stroke play, give us a bracket. At least give us something new and something to root for besides trying to remember who started at -8 because of the format and what they currently are shooting.
You still send the top-30 and seed it from there. Seems simple. East Lake can host, don't necessarily care about the setup there if it's match play, it's where the Tour Championship is held. Then give us the bracket, even do a selection show - I know a podcast that can help with it. Not to mention we lost Jim Nantz at the Final Four, we can get him back to doing something with a bracket.
