Aaron Rodgers Says This Sunday Could Be The End Of His NFL Career

SOURCE -  New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers will make his 241st career start Sunday. It could be his last.

"Yeah, of course," he said Wednesday, acknowledging that the thought is on his mind as he prepares for Sunday's season finale against the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium.

Rodgers, 41, said he will decide before free agency in March on whether to play in 2025, joking that he won't need a darkness retreat this time to help his thought process.

In a reflective mood, Rodgers said he has "a lot of gratitude for the last 20 years," adding that he's thankful for the many coaches and teammates he has encountered on his football journey from high school to the Jets. He sounded as if he's thinking hard about retirement.

If Aaron Rodgers is still on the Jets next season, I am going to lose my mind. I can't imagine any NFL fan base that would want a 41 year old QB that has thrown for 300 yards once December 19th, 2021. If you are the Titans, Giants, Browns, Raiders or any team with a shitty QB, you don't want Rodgers either. You'd rather be bad with a younger QB you can build around than some old legend.

Rodgers has obviously had an incredible career and I don't blame him at all for wanting to play this season. I don't even blame the Jets for bringing him in. Considering where the franchise was on the time, it made sense to take a shot on him. It ended up being one of the worst experiments in recent sports history. It also left the Jets in maybe the worst situation of any team in the NFL.

But, he does deserve to have a great moment to go out on, even if it's for this shit team. He can get it too. Rodgers currently has 499 touchdowns in his career. Go out and get that 500th touchdown on Sunday and ride off into the sunset. You can throw it your friend Davante Adams and call it a day.

So where do the Jets go from here? I think they should sell everything off for any draft asset they can and completely start over. Burn it all down and start from scratch. This is a franchise that hasn't even had a winning season since 2015. We're stuck with Woody Johnson. The Jets are probably fucked. But I don't see how you attract a decent GM without letting him build the team from the ground up. Asking someone to build anything with the broken roster that sits in Florham Park is an impossible task.

Rodgers isn't going to go into next season as a backup for anyone. No team will want him as a starter. Maybe at best, he can hope for a Joe Flacco/Browns situation where he spends half the season on the couch and some random playoff team with a hurt QB grabs him? But what are the odds of that? While Flacco has had a very good career, is that the best way for a legend like Rodgers to go out?

Get your 500th TD on Sunday and go away forever. You've deserved it.
