Penn State Dominates Boise State in Further Proof of CFP Misconfiguration

Well that went just about as everyone expected. Penn State didn't even play all that well and it still showed up in Phoenix and took it to a Boise State team which came into this game off a first round bye in the College Football Playoff.

This is no knock on Boise State or any sort of indictment on the Broncos being in the CFP like we had with some teams in the first round. This was the proof we all assumed we'd see of the flawed seeding system that gave byes to the No. 9 and 12 teams, made the No. 1 team an underdog in its first matchup against arguably the most talented team in the country and handed the 6-seed the easiest path to the semi-finals.

There are already reports that this system could be changed by next year and that simply has to happen. I would guess we'll see something very similar to tonight's game in the first contest tomorrow between Texas and Arizona State before we get what will be two awesome games later in the day, albeit games that should probably look a little different if we wanted this Playoff system to optimize giving the advantage to the best teams — a novel concept, to be sure.

But congratulations to Penn State. Drew Allar managed the game exactly how he needed to, Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton ran all over the place and the Nittany Lions' defense bottled up Ashton Jeanty and had Maddux Madsen in hell all night. PSU handled its business and is now just one win away from a shot at a national title.

Maybe next year we make the 6-seed play somebody that can give them a competitive game in the first two rounds, though.
