Of All The Impressive Victor Wembanyama Stats And Accomplishments To Start His Career, This One Might Be The Most Insane

You know, it's been a little while since we've had an update on all the ridiculous shit Victor Wembanyama does on the basketball court, and I can't think of a better time for a little reminder of what's currently going on in San Antonio. From a team perspective, we're seeing progression unfold right before our eyes, with SA sitting in the 9th spot in the West at 15-13, just 1 game back of the 5 seed (DEN). I'm pretty sure the majority of the basketball world did not have that being a real sentence a few days before Christmas, but here we are.

In terms of Wemby, he's continued to do shit that will melt your brain, like his light work 30 point 10 block performance the other night

I'll remind you, that performance was coming off his 42/6/5/4/2 on 13-24 (7-15) against the Hawks in the Spurs' previous game. Just an insane run these past 15 or so games for Wemby and someone you absolutely should be watching on a nightly basis.

Since he entered the league, I've written many blogs about some insane Wemby stat or moment that shouldn't be possible yet actually happened. It's part of the gig when you have a generational talent doing things the league has never seen before.

Well, out of every stat and every blog, I'm not sure there's a stat out there that stopped me in my tracks quite like this one

I'm sorry….excuse me?

Even if you wanted to counter and say Wemby is taller than like 99.5% of NBA players, I'd like to remind you that Victor Wembanyama has only played in 94 career games, and has 341 blocks. Seeing as how I am VERY much not a math guy, I was certain this was just Wemby propaganda and there was no way this could be true and that I was getting JMac'd.

All time, there have been around 5,000 players who have played at least 1 game in the NBA. When you go to the Career Leaders in blocks, you'll see that Ed Davis ranks 250th (as far as Basketball Reference Goes) with 566. So essentially, Ed Davis has more blocks than about 95% of NBA players.

He played 722 games.

Suddenly, that Wemby number doesn't sound so crazy. I mean, it is crazy, but you get what I'm saying,

Considering Wemby had 254 blocks last year (led the NBA) and already leads the NBA again this year with 87 in 23 games, I think it's fair to assume he finishes the year around that 250 block mark barring injury for the second consecutive season. If he plays around the 71 games he did last year, we're talking about 500ish blocks in just 140ish career games.

This pace would have Wemby passing Ed Davis and entering the top 250 all time in just 2.25 seasons before he even hits his age 23 season. That is legitimately insane.

So while you may have expected Wemby to one day dominate the blocks category given his height and length, the fact that he's making this much of a dent in it historically all before he plays 100 career games is something that even the biggest Wemby supporter probably didn't see coming. All that talk about how he was going to be bullied and wouldn't be able to handle the strength of the NBA. Well, it sure looks like Wemby is the one doing the bullying, and he's just getting started.
