Ryan Day and Ohio State Successfully Avoided Becoming the Most Embarrassing Story in College Football History
Congratulations to Ohio State on its dominant victory over Tennessee in the College Football Playoff. Obviously I wanted the Vols to put on a better showing than they did, but I'm honestly a bit relieved for my friends from Columbus.
If OSU had lost that game on the heels of what it did against Michigan, there would have been no coming back from that for a generation. Ryan Day wouldn't have been able to show his face in public in the state of Ohio for the rest of his life. I would have been genuinely fearful that some Buckeyes fans would have harmed themselves if this game turned out differently.
So give me the loss. I can take it. I'm not happy with the result, but a small part of me feels good knowing we allowed Ohio State to avoid becoming a punchline from which there would be no return. And the Buckeyes are a damn good football team as long as they don't see the maize and blue lined up across from them and piss down their legs.
Good for Ohio State. It sucks we let them beat us in Volumbus, but we gave the OSU community a wonderful gift this Christmas.
