Conor McGregor Says He Has Agreed To A Boxing Match With Logan Paul In India
Earlier this morning, Conor McGregor tweeted that the rumors of him fighting "Topurio" (Ilia Topuria) are false, and that he is actually "in preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India".
If you're wondering who the Ambanis are, or why they sound so familiar, they are the family worth over $120 billion that constantly pays A-list celebrities and performers for private gigs. They just dropped $10mil for Justin Bieber to half-ass a couple songs at a "pre-wedding" in July….
And Donnie was actually just outside Mukesh Ambani's $4.6 billion skyscraper mansion last week!
As far as whether or not this is true - who knows. I can't tell if it'd be sadder for Conor McGregor to be making this up for relevancy (or as some sorta power play with the UFC) or if it's true and actually something he'd do at this stage in his career. It's kinda admitting defeat and calling it a day if he stoops down to taking a fight like this, right? He says he'd seek his return to the octagon afterwards, but c'mon. There's never been an active MMA fighter NOT on the downslope that's willing to fight a Paul brother in a freakshow circus exhibition thing. Conor's gonna be the first to do that and then turn it all around? Right after losing this civil case so publicly and getting dropped by Proper 12 and all that? He's finally ready NOW?!
I've said it before and I'll say it again: nobody wants to see Conor McGregor fight anywhere but the octagon anymore. We did the boxing thing back in the day with Mayweather, we all bought in, and that was that. We're not into the idea of watching that again - and many aren't even into the idea of him fighting back in the UFC. You simply can't kick off "the greatest comeback in sports history" with a backroom billionaire boxing match against the Paul brother who is less good at fighting.
Take it all with a grain of salt, though - I'd be shocked if this materializes.
