Welcome To The New Era Of College Hoops - Number 1 Recruit AJ Dybantsa Announced He's Going To BYU, Thanks To A 'Record-Setting NIL Deal'
There it is. The rumor of AJ Dybantsa going to BYU has been out there for a few months now and it's finally official. Sure, he did it on First Take, where they butchered his name and snuck him in between talking about Bill Belichick and the Cowboys, but it's still BYU. When you're asking why? Norlander says it right there. Enormous NIL package, a record-setting NIL deal. This is the new era of college sports. Teams like BYU, who yeah, have deep pockets, can land a guy like AJ Dybantsa. It also helps he plays prep school in Utah with ties to BYU, that is something that has been done for years but amplified even more now.
For those wondering here's some Dybantsa highlights:
It's still fucking weird to see a top player go to BYU. I don't care about the NIL package or connections or Danny Ainge helping out or Kevin Young as head coach, it's still BYU. Other teams can throw out big time NIL deals and get you to the pros. I do kind of hate that this was on First Take because it turned into Stephen A. and AJ talking about what NBA teams he'd want to play for (he said the Magic and Spurs). Just talk college hoops fellas. This is the number 1 recruit going to a weird school for a year. It's a massive story.
We won't know the official number of NIL, but a bunch of rumors out there that it could be $5 million. Absurd. BYU has pockets man, just shows where we are in this new era. Teams like BYU are in the mix and signing top recruits.
