Jake Elliott Missing Kicks Has Become Such A Problem That They're Now Drilling Eagles Fans In The Face
First of all....chicks, amirite?
I'll give fans the benefit of the doubt when they get absolutely hosed in the dome by a foul ball at a baseball game. Small white ball flying at 90+ mph? That's not the easiest thing to avoid. But getting your face rocked by an errant field goal? That's user error. That's either an alarmingly severe lack of athleticism or awareness or both.
With at that being said, none of this would be an issue if Jake Elliott would just remember how to kick a damn football. There was a time earlier in the year when I wanted Nick Sirianni fired because he kept going for it on 4th down instead of just letting Jake Elliott put up the easy 3 points. Now I'm starting to think that Sirianni just knew his kicker is completely washed, and that there's no such thing as an easy 3 points when it comes to this guy anymore.
It sucks because Jake Elliott is an Eagles legend. He's had so many massive moments with this team. He's a Super Bowl champion. He made that 61-yarder against the Giants to really start that run for the 2017 team. He's made the most career 50+ yarders in Eagles franchise history. And yet this year...
Now this isn't the missed kick that ended up smoking that chick in the face. I'm going to assume that was the missed PAT that ended up getting called back anyway after the Panthers jumped offside. So when we look back through the annals of history one day, we'll never actually see the miss on Jake Elliott's record that Marsha Brady'd this chick into Bolivian.
But still. It's one thing when Jake Elliott's misses were just killing the team. He's crossing the line if his misses start actually killing fans. I don't know what the answer is. He's too much of a legend to just cut him during the middle of the season. But the man just got paid $24 million last spring, and he can barely hit chip shots. I don't think you can go into the playoffs with a kicker who is "working through it". Really the only option right now is just to let Nick Sirianni go full Sirianni and literally never kick. Go for it on every 4th down. Merry Christmas, Nick.
