There's Nobody More Delusional Than A New York Sports Fan
Folks from New York tend to think the entire world revolves around them. They have this superiority complex that allows their brains made out of prosciutto to think that everybody in the world wants to live in New York. That there's no place that anybody else would rather be, and that it would be the #1 destination for any professional athlete. Year after year you see free agents sign literally everywhere but New York. Everybody knows the city is a disgusting, overfilled, floating garbage island piece of shit. But that's not going to stop everyone in New York from acting like it's still the 1930s and it's some booming utopian metropolis.
The most recent case of how skewed the average New York brain is came today with news that Jacob Trouba is on the way out of the Rangers locker room in some capacity, whether that be via trade or placing the captain on waivers.
This will now be the 3rd straight American captain the New York Rangers have dealt away. First they traded Ryan Callahan to Tampa in 2014. Then they traded Ryan McDonagh to Tampa in 2018. And now it seems like Jacob Trouba is either going to get traded, or he'll be what has to be the first current captain to ever be placed on waivers.
The general consensus is that Jacob Trouba is extremely washed and extremely overpaid. This is important to keep in mind because you can ask anyone in New York about Jacob Trouba, and that will be their assessment of the captain. They hate the guy. Can't wait to get him out of Madison Square Garden. Yet somehow…they think that he'd be a perfect candidate to land BRADY TKACHUK in a trade from Ottawa.
This is where the delusion is in full gear. In what world does Jacob Trouba land you Brady Tkachuk? Not a single world in a single galaxy in a single universe. But the folks in New York think Ottawa are just a bunch of dumb hicks who would be happy just to have the privilege of doing business with the Rangers. I've just never seen a city think that they're going to land every single big name that's potentially available just because they have the highest energy bill in the world.
And I get it. They need to cope somehow. They lost Saquon Barkley, and the Giants are the biggest joke in professional sports right now. Aaron Rodgers ended up being one of the biggest blunders in modern history, and the Jets haven't made the playoffs since the first iPhone came out. The Yankees are about to lose Juan Soto. There are so many pro sports teams in New York City, and all of them suck in some way or another. It's easier to just lie to yourself and say that it's the greatest city in the world, and that it's every athlete's dream to play there. At least they'll always have those few minutes where they thought Brady Tkachuk was on the next flight from Ottawa.
Sidenote: everybody with a functioning brain knows that Brady Tkachuk is coming to Philly the first chance he gets.
