"He Has Said Publicly He Wants To Stay On East Coast" A Rockies Fan Emailed The Owner Of The Team, Asked Him To Sign Juan Soto And Actually Got An Answer Back
Remember in July of 2023 when I blogged about the Rockies fan who had found the email of Dick Monfort, owner of the Colorado Rockies, and politely asked him to trade for Shohei Ohtani? Of course you do! You read all about it. You remember that the owner actually emailed the fan back with a pretty honest reason. It wasn't some PR generated BS, he kinda just got right down to it. Now this isn't some beat reporter or national guy, it's literally just a guy on twitter (Shoutout @kevlar23). Fast forward a year later and we're watching Juan Soto go through this dating process to find his next team, @kevlar23 decided to hit up his old source and see where his Rockies stood on landing the future hall of famer.
He dipped the ink again and told Monfort about the rumors going around social media, exchanging numbers that he thinks Monfort would like to see. He tells him how well he thinks Soto would fit in those purple pinstripes and is really trying to present a case to try and bring Soto to the mountains. There was also a good chance that Monfort had no clue that Soto was a free agent, why would that franchise even bother trying to land the biggest fish? This was probably brand new information to him.
Monfort answered this email back faster than your friends text you back, a quick 6 minutes from when he got the email to when he responded. The fact that he responded yet again is hilarious, I wonder if he knows an email is coming from this guy whenever a big name free agent is floating out there? Does he think this guy is his guardian acquisition angel? Like he only comes and speaks to him when it's a really big fish? He gives kevlar an answer back and gets right to the point, he says that Soto has publicly said he wants to stay on the East coast. Guess he didn't enjoy San Diego that much at all and if Monfort is correct, takes the Dodgers out of play for Soto. Didn't feel a need to say "Happy Holidays" back or even offer much of a goodbye, which makes him even replying all that much funnier.
This fan does have to watch how often he abuses these privileges, most people on twitter can't get a reply back from a guy on his favorite team and kevlar is over here exchanging Soto numbers with the owner. Don't abuse it, can't be blowing him up too much. Can't wait until next offseason or the trade deadline when he tries to convince Monfort to trade for a superstar.
