Believe It Or Not - The New Star Wars Show Is Actually Good

'Skeleton Crew' (the latest series set in the Star Wars galaxy) debuted last night on Disney Plus with a two-episode premiere, and I gotta say - so far, so good!

From the trailers, it appeared to be Star Wars 'Goonies' with a little 'Stranger Things' mixed in, and after the first two, it's clear that's exactly what it is. It follows an adventurous group of kids on a new planet called At Attin who discover a buried starship that takes them into space (and hyperspace) for the first time. They immediately start trying to make their way home, but nobody seems to know anything about how to get back to At Attin, and some even think the planet is a myth.

It's got that whimsical Spielberg-y vibe and John Williams-inspired music, almost straight outta 'E.T.' or 'Hook', but it also carries a little mystery and introduces Jude Law's Force sensitive character at the end of Episode 2 - who I think will bring the show to a new level going forward. The kid actors are pretty good though, and the production quality of the show looks a lot closer to 'The Mandalorian' than 'The Acolyte' with Spider-Man director Jon Watts at the helm. There's pirates, violence, and also some great little easter eggs and nods for the diehard fans; plus it provides a look at a whole new side of the galaxy....the Star Wars suburbs!

I know a lot of you probably take my Star Wars opinions with a grain of salt at this point knowing how much I love 'The Last Jedi' - so don't just take my word for it, look at what others are saying!

It didn't grip me like the first episodes of 'The Mandalorian' or anything, but it laid a better foundation than a few of the other Star Wars series we've gotten - and I'm hopeful we've got a hit on our hands here! I'm already looking forward to Episode 6 directed by Bryce Dallas Howard, as well, because everything Star Wars that she had touched has been tremendous. That's a director who they should give a movie to right there.

I'll break this all down a little more in-depth with Clem in My Mom's Basement tomorrow, so check out the two-episode premiere tonight and join us to discuss it then!
