Travis Hunter Officially Locked Up the Heisman With His 3 TDs and Interception To Finish the Regular Season
Well, that'll do it. It would have taken a superhuman game from Ashton Jeanty and a very sub-par one from Travis Hunter to give Jeanty a real shot at the Heisman Trophy, but Hunter put any doubt to rest on Friday. More than 100 receiving yards, three touchdowns and a pick for good measure. You can go ahead and engrave his name on the trophy.
I know the takes have been flowing in regards to Hunter recently, but 1) he's had an incredible season that hasn't been equaled in a very long time and 2) there isn't a great second option, anyway. Jeanty put up outstanding numbers, but finished shy of the unparalleled season it looked like he might have early on.
Now we'll wait to see if Colorado can get the breaks it needs to end up in the Big 12 Championship Game and potentially be playing for a spot in the College Football Playoff. The Buffaloes aren't what a Playoff team should probably look like, but neither is anybody else in the Big 12. And it would be awesome to see Hunter and Shedeur Sanders go to Columbus or Eugene in the first round.
But whatever happens with the Big 12's situation, the Heisman Trophy winner is no longer in doubt.
