UFC Newcomer Pulls Off The Upset Of The Year And Her Parents Have No Idea She's A Fighter
This past weekend, the UFC held an event in Macau, China that exceeded all expectations. We got five KO/TKOs, a submission from Gabriella Fernandes, and tons of bangers up and down the card - but nobody captured the imagination of MMA fans quite like Shi Ming....
Shi Ming is a doctor who fought in the finals of the "Road To UFC" tournament on Saturday - and her parents have no idea she's even a professional fighter. It's like a real life School of Rock type story with the least assuming athlete of all time!
Ming went down two rounds to none early on Saturday morning, and was a +2000 underdog on the live odds heading into the final round, but she dug deep and landed an UNREAL head kick for the finish which caused her opponent Feng Xiaocan to leave on a stretcher….
Pretty ironic for a doctor to send someone to the hospital in such devastating fashion. I can't even remember the last time a stretcher was necessary at a UFC event, but luckily, Feng appears to be all good….
This is definitely one of my favorite UFC origin stories of the year, and now I just need to know more. Like, I assume after that knockout, her parents HAVE to have found out, right?! Everyone has been reposting this highlight for days, and Ming's story has already gone mega-viral. Did one of their friends forward the knockout to them like, "Hey, uh, is this your daughter kicking someone's head into the twelfth row of a sold out arena?" She just earned a UFC contract, so they gotta be proud of that, right?!
We need more Shi Ming lore and we need it now!
