Conor McGregor Found Liable For A 2018 Sexual Assault, Says Irish Civil Jury

ESPN- A jury ruled in favor of a woman who accused UFC superstar Conor McGregor of sexually assaulting her in a hotel room in December 2018. The High Court in Dublin ordered McGregor to pay the complainant 248,000 euros, or around $257,000.

The jury had deliberated on the case since Thursday. McGregor, who denied the accusations and said he had consensual sex with the accuser, is not currently facing any criminal charges from the incident.

According to Irish national broadcaster RTÉ, the woman told the High Court she met McGregor at a Christmas party in Dublin. She accused the former two-weight UFC champion of forcing her onto a bed, choking her and making her fear for her life. A paramedic who treated the woman's injuries the next morning told the courtroom he had never seen such intense bruising on a victim, according to BBC News.

As soon as I landed in Baton Rogue on Friday (for a Pup Punk show at Fred's), I was informed that Conor McGregor was just found liable for a sexual assault that took place back in 2018 by an Irish civil jury. This case had been ongoing for a while, and the accusations are real bad; the details will make you feel sick. Unfortunately it's not the first time we've had to talk about the former two-weight world champion like this, either.

Since this was a civil court and not a criminal court, McGregor has been ordered to pay the victim a little over $250,000, but will not face any jail time or other consequences. According to McGregor himself, he plans to appeal the decision as well….

So this isn't technically a "guilty" verdict, but I'd be lying if I said it felt much different than one.

As the "McGregor guy" around here, I've gotten a ton of "How are you gonna spin this one?!" type comments in the past 48 hours, and my answer is obviously: I'm not going to spin it at all! I'm not a psychopath! I'd like to think I know when to turn the schtick off - and this is certainly one of those times!

I did away with the whole "superfan" schtick for a long time when these accusations initially came out six years ago, and only starting talking about Conor again when it appeared he was "in the clear" and back in the UFC. Obviously that was foolish and premature, but we live and we learn. I'll knock it off again from here on out. It was a good decent run, and I'm appreciative for all his team has done for me over the years, but it's clearly time to hang up the bullhorn for McGregor. He's just not very fun to joke about/make comedic content around anymore. 

So yeah - if he ever fights again, I'll call it down the middle. After this, though, I'm not sure if that day will ever come.
