Scottie Pippen Jr Went Into Chicago And Immediately Turned Into His Dad

The overwhelming majority of the media's attention around a father and son NBA story revolves around LeBron and Bronny, and you can understand why. They did make NBA history together and all that, but at this point Bronny is nowhere close to an NBA player.

Meanwhile, an awesome father and son NBA story that gets way less hype also exists.

Scottie Pippen is an iconic player in NBA history, and easily one of the 50 best players ever. While technically a "Robin", that's simply because the "Batman" was Michael goddamn Jordan. Pippen was that dude, a complete two way monster.

As it turns out, his kid isn't too shabby either. Scottie Pippen Jr played in 21 games last year (16 starts) for a Grizzlies team that had to find minutes from somewhere after their entire roster got hurt. Ja, Smart, Bane, all their guards missed legit time, and here came Scottie Pippen Jr. A 6'1 guard who averaged 12.9/3.2/4.7 on 49/41% splits. The Grizzlies are awesome at finding developmental talent (GG Jackson) and it looked like they maybe had something here with Pippen Jr.

I remember seeing him in Vegas during Summer League and you could tell right away he was going to make the Grizzlies. That's part of the fun of going to Summer League, you really can see the difference between NBA players and NBA hopefuls

Then came the 4/$9M deal and the rest is history. The Grizzlies have once again found themselves with some backcourt injury issues, and Pippen has asserted himself as a quality rotation player. Just like last year, another 12.6/3.9/5.9 on 48/40% splits. He's been awesome. Hard to imagine the Lakers couldn't figure that out. Oh well! Sucks for them!

Well last night with the Grizzlies making a stop in Chicago at his Dad's old stomping grounds, Scottie Pippen Jr had himself a night

The 30 points were a career high, and come on, this is pretty cool. This is what sports is all about. It has to feel crazy to not only have the best night of your career, but to have it on the same court that your Dad became an NBA legend playing on? The career night performance just so happens to be something that only your Dad had done?

That's crazy.

I'll admit, there's a chance I'm way more impressed and interested in this because I'm currently knee-deep in watching Lost for the first time on Netflix (midway through season 2). My brain and eyes are looking for easter eggs and clues everywhere I look. The meaning behind the meaning, and there's something cosmic about Scottie Pippen Jr having this type of night in that building. Something's at play there, I just have no idea what it is.

While an awesome moment, the more important part is the fact that the Grizzlies have found a real player in Scottie Pippen Jr. This isn't the case of a son of a legend getting an NBA handout. This is a dude who not only put in the work, but he has the talent to make a real impact on an NBA floor.
