Who Is Actually The Best QB From the Incredible 2020 Class?

Every time QBs from the 2020 class go up against each other, you see the debate over which QB emerge. Usually it's a battle over who is 2nd behind Burrow but it is a debate nonetheless. I decided to take a look at the numbers.

Here is the background.

I put these numbers together last Saturday and I chose not to include Jordan Love in the convo just because of games played (35). Tua (59), Burrow (62), Herbert (72) and Hurts (72) are just a bit too ahead for it to be fair. All the categories here are per game stats with everything averaged across their respective starts.

So what does this say to you? To me, it says Burrow has performed the best followed by Herbert, then Tua, then Hurts. And how much have their respective teams done to help them?

These numbers are from 2020-2023, all averaged like the numbers above.

Now what does this tell you? Its about as a straightforward as it gets. The Eagles have been BY FAR The best situation for this entire crop. A dream scenario for a QB tbh. Then the Dolphins, then a crapshoot between the Chargers and the Bengals.

I think you can interpret this info however you want. One thing that is important to note is that a bad defense and bad run game can create more opportunities for a QB. If the run doesn't work and the defense gets you in the hole, your pass attempts should go up by default. You can see that in the pass attempt numbers/game with Herbert (37), Burrow (37), Tua (31) and Hurts (26) with the latter also being brought down by his designed run game. That said, not every QB rises to that challenge, and it doesn't make it much easier when the opposing defense can dial in on the pass.

My interpretation is simple. I know that Burrow and Herbert are in that top-tier of QB because they perform well through the adverse situations their teams have created around them. I know that if you put them on the Eagles roster, they would perform extremely well. Tua, when healthy, is probably a bit below them and Hurts is just a mystery. Its not his fault but he's never had to struggle in the same way the rest of the group has. It's possible that if more was asked from him as an individual for the success of the team, that he would be putting up bigger numbers. The thing is that we just don't know

I think that, just looking at what we do know, it's gotta be Burrow and Herbert 1A 1B. Then Tua as long as injury isn't a consideration, then Hurts.

Here are the actual numbers too in case you were wondering.
