Baker Mayfield Donated Money To A Local Tampa High School For Helmets And They Went From 3-8 To Playing In The State Championship Game

Baker Mayfield (pictured above with a fan) has done pretty well for himself in his career. He was the #1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. His career earnings so far are over $85 million dollars. He signed a 3-year deal worth up to $115 million this past off-season.

The guy loves Tampa. He gives back to the community. He's got the Baker & Emily Mayfield Foundation which provides programs, scholarships, and philanthropic opportunities to help others tackle life's challenges in order to be the best version of themselves. And last year, he donated money to the Space Coast Vipers High School football team, located in Cocoa, Florida. They were 1-8 last year and funds were tight. Their season was in jeopardy. They needed 60-70 new helmets as their old ones were falling apart.

The Vipers' Coach's mom is a big Oklahoma Sooners fan and reached out to the Mayfield's foundation for help. Her wish was granted as the Mayfields donated new helmets and gear for the team and they were able to have a season. Not only that, Baker Mayfield's play became a bonding opportunity for the team. Players families would take turns hosting watch parties to watch the guy that saved their season.

The Vipers finished up a 9-3 season and will now play in the SSAA 1A State Championship game this Friday at 7pm. Go Vipers!
