Jon Jones Is An Absolute FRAUD For The Way He's Ducking Tom Aspinall

Listen, before you get on me for using an all caps "FRAUD" while referring to Jon Jones in my headline - Jon Jones is the GOAT. He's the greatest fighter to ever step in the cage. That is an unquestionable fact in my opinion. On his best day, in his prime, there's no man on earth who could beat him in a mixed martial arts bout. I would never argue that.

HOWEVAH, that doesn't change the fact that he's being an absolute FRAUD for the way he's been ducking a fight with UFC Interim Heavyweight Champ Tom Aspinall.

I mean, fighting Stipe Miocic - a guy who hasn't won a fight in four years, coming off a brutal knockout loss to Francis Ngannou - is one thing. It's a "gimme" fight for Jon that the UFC could sell as the greatest of all time versus the greatest heavyweight of all time (because Stipe is the only person to defend the heavyweight championship three times) and it's in Jon's home of New York City. Whatever. I'm not gonna fault the guy for saying yes to that matchup where he finally gets to fight in his own backyard.

I am gonna fault him when he talks about Tom Aspinall not being "deserving" of a fight with him afterwards, though, because Tom Aspinall has done absolutely everything in his power to make himself deserving of that fight! He's the interim champion for fucks sake! That title only exists to say "THIS GUY HAS EARNED A SHOT AT THE REAL CHAMP" and he's holding it! Hell, he's even DEFENDED it! That's already a lot more than Jones had done by the time he earned his first title shot against Shogun Rua!

Then for him to say today that Aspinall has been an asshole and that's why he doesn't want to do business with him….c'mon pal! How many arrests, drug test failures, court appearances, and apologies can we add to the "Controversies" tab of your Wikipedia page before you lose the right to call others assholes?! And what the fuck is with this quote about wanting to fight guys like Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill if he sticks around?!

THIS IS OUR GOAT???? CALLING OUT GUYS IN THE DIVISION BELOW HIM COMING OFF LOSSES???

I think the fact of the matter is this: Jon Jones knows that a prime Tom Aspinall at heavyweight is the biggest threat to his "undefeated record" the sport has right now, and doesn't want to fight him because of that. Aspinall's got the size advantage, the power advantage, probably even the speed advantage at this point, and his ground game is very impressive. That's not worth "gambling a legacy" for Jon, so he'd rather tuck his tail and retire while refusing to unify the titles….

Obviously Jones looked great in his last bout against Ciryl Gane (a guy with absolutely zero ground game), but let's not forget how he looked against Dominick Reyes and Anthony Smith before that….because it wasn't like the old Jon Jones we remember from back in the day! He's lost a few steps in all the time he's spent away from the octagon!

Yeah, he should still be able to handle Miocic easily on Saturday - but everybody knows Aspinall is the real test, and for Jones to retire without taking that test would be shameful….and it should affect his legacy as a fighter. Guy is shaking in his boots and ready to run away from the sport because he's finally got an interesting contender knocking at his door.

Meanwhile, if he just fought Aspinall and won, it would only further cement his legacy as the GOAT and he'd be able to retire saying he beat the best from multiple generations. Again, tho - it's just not worth the risk for ol Jonny Bones. Oh well.

P.S. We just interview Cutman Tate who will be wrapping hands and fixing cuts on Saturday, and it was a delight - check it out below….
