NHL Player Proves That Ice Skating Is, In Fact, Quite Difficult

When you watch the NHL every night, you start to take it for granted. Guys like Connor McDavid are able to maneuver around a sheet of ice more elegantly than most people can even walk on their own two feet. These guys make it look so effortless and flawless.

But at the end of the day, you're wearing a boot that has a 3mm thick knife attached to the bottom of it while gliding overtop of a frozen sheet of ice. I'm not saying that other sports are necessarily "easier" to play than hockey. But also, I don't know any other sport where most of the population probably couldn't even stand upright on the playing surface. Even if you suck at basketball, you can still just go out there and run around on the court.

But if you can't skate, you can't play hockey. And Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jalen Chatfield proved that sometimes even the greatest hockey players on the planet can't even really skate.

Apparently he does this before every game. Not fall and go crashing into the boards. But take a quick sprint to the bench, and apparently slam on the brakes to give everyone a little snowstorm in the tunnel to the locker room. This time he ended up blowing a tire, and all I can say is that we need that footage. The fact that we're 16 hours after the fact and whoever is holding that camera on the blueline hasn't released the footage yet? Sickening. That is going to be an all-time clip.

By the way, a hockey game also happened last night. It was a doozy. The Flyers were able to tie things up at 4-4 after Travis Konency scored his 2nd goal of the night. But the Flyers also weren't very interested in playing any extra hockey. They are on a 3-game road trip, and had to catch a flight down to Florida. So with 30 seconds left in regulation, Martin Necas delivered the dagger and gave the Canes the win.

17 points in 7 games for Necas. Not bad at all for a guy who was offer sheet bait over the summer.

Also, not the worst loss in the world for the Flyers. Matvei Michkov picked up another point with an assist on the powerplay, and now that loss puts them in 32nd place in the league.

If this team is able to pick up another top 3 pick in next summer's draft to go along with Matvei Michkov and Jett Luchanko? Woah baby. Watch out. Dynasty loading.
