5-Star, 6'7 TE Elyiss Williams Played Against Tiny Children on Friday Night and Nothing Has Ever Been More Unfair
I can't find a full box score for Camden County's 38-28 win over Tift County on Friday night, but if 5-star TE Elyiss Williams didn't have at least 25 targets, the entire offensive coaching staff needs to be replaced. Tift County sent 5'6 corners out there to cover the No. 1 tight end in America and it's one of the more ridiculous looks you're ever going to see on a football field — the corner in that last clip is seriously listed at 5'6, 140 pounds.
These clips are why I love high school football. All those 5-star grown men that are three years away from playing in the NFL spend most Friday nights going up against kids who are normally sized and had a math test that day, which gives you matchups like these. I can't believe a 6A school in Georgia, though, couldn't come up with a better plan to cover a 6'7, 5-star tight end than putting its (presumably) smallest corner in man coverage in the red zone. The best case scenario is that kid gets Moss'd and worst case is he gets a concussion after being rag-dolled to the ground.
If it's any consolation for the Tift County DB room, I'm not sure how well SEC corners are going to be able to cover this guy next year, either.
