The Flyers Are Going To Win The Stanley Cup This Year As Long As They Keep Their Moms With The Team All Season

It's no secret that the Flyers are currently in the middle of a rebuild. This is a huge year for them to just figure out exactly what they have as a foundation to build upon. You have a budding superstar in the league with a 19-year-old Matvei Michkov. You have some relatively unknowns between the pipes. There is a ton of young talent on the team, but are they the right guys? That's what the 2024-25 season is all about finding out. So with that being the goal, it's important to temper your expectations for this team. They're going to have nights where they look great, they're going to have nights where they clearly look like the 4th youngest team in the league. I don't think anyone should start even thinking about the word "playoffs" yet.

That is, of course, unless the moms stay with the boys all season long. Because through 2-games on the Flyers Mom's Trip, this team is out of their fucking mind.

A 2-0 win on the road in Boston on Tuesday night. Not that that's anything to celebrate at the moment considering the Bruins are absolute trash at the moment and lost 5 of their last 6 games. Honestly laughable how bad the Bruins are right now. And then a 2-1 win last night with St. Louis coming into town. There wasn't a ton happening throughout the game, but the moments that did happen? Well clearly this team had a little extra giddy up in their system.

This Garnet Hathaway goal looks like Ryan Poehling pulled a "Space Jam" and stole all of Connor McDavid's powers on the set up.

Knifes his way through a couple of players in the neutral zone, splits the defense on the entry, and then serves that apple up on a platter for Hathaway to hammer home. It looked exactly like McDavid setting up Perry in the Cup Final.

And then this play between Laughton, Farabee and Bobby Brink was a spicy little sequence.

We're 11 games into the season so far. There hasn't been a ton of flow to the Flyers game 5v5 yet this year. It constantly feels like they're fighting the puck. But not this time. This was as silky smooth as they come. And that's probably because Momma Laughton was in the barn to make her little Scotty feel like a big boy who can do anything out there.

Okay but seriously. Shoutout to the moms. Not just the Flyers' moms, but all hockey moms in general. Becoming a hockey mom might just be the most selfless act on the planet. The moment you become a hockey mom, you sign up for a life of having at least one room in your house absolutely reeking of soaking wet hockey gear as it dries. You have to drive all over for late night practices and early morning games. Sitting in freezing cold rinks while the dads are all drunk at 7am screaming at a 12-year-old ref. All the meanwhile, you have all the regular mom duties of keeping the house running. Hockey moms are the best, and I'm glad the Flyers were able to give all these moms a few days to celebrate all the hard work they put in to getting their boys to achieve their dreams.

But if their boys' dreams are to win a Stanley Cup one day, then that means the moms are going to have to stick around for the rest of the year. They're 2-0 so far. I'm not great at math, but I'm pretty sure that means if they were here for a full season that the Flyers would go 82-0 in the regular season, and 16-0 in the playoffs. Find me a better team in hockey than the Flyers when their moms are in town. You can't. Bunch of mama's boys.
