New York Sports Equinox Turns Equinoxious

Tough night in the big rotten apple. While there wasn't a full sports equinox since no New York hockey team played, there was still the ever so rare three of the big-four sports night along with MLS - all four losing.

Of course, all eyes were focused on the Yankees needing a win to stay out of the dreaded 0-3 hole. And my goodness Aaron Judge, what is going on???

Hand up. I thought Judge smashed that fly ball out of the park just like everyone else. The broadcast team thought it. The camera man though it. But in the end it was a classic Hary Carey "back back, BAAAAAAACK….fly out to center" moment. Just brutal. That could have put them back in the game and series.

In the summer I was in the process of attaching game scores all in a nice little database for every big-four sport ever played, but at the moment I just have baseball going back to the late 90s. Finishing that little project is on the to-dos. Even so, that's enough to look back to find some New York sports equinox dates. And the last time I see 3/4 major New York city sports play on the same day that includes baseball is october 7, 2001. Kinda makes sense as the Playoffs were delayed due to 9/11. Anway - much better night for New York:

- Yankees (1) Devil Rays (0)

- Giants (23) Redskins (9)

- Rangers (5) Sabres (4)

- Mets (0) Expos (5)

Not quite the same for New York last night…

The only MLB playoff team to overcome an 0-3 hole was the 2004 Red Sox. Not to pour lemon juice into the wound but they did this against the Yankees. Not that they needed the reminder.

But don't laugh too hard Boston fans. You still own probably the worst Sports Equinoxious date perhaps ever. We'll see once I get around to pulling all the data together. But this is worth the read New York fans to help with last night's pain.
