The Jets Are A Horrific Football Team That Will Take Years To Fix

There is no more defense of the New York Jets. The excuses and mental gymnastics can stop. The Aaron Rodgers Experiment has been a total failure. The only way to fix this team is to trade and/or fire everyone involved with this team. This is the new rock bottom.

The only thing Jets fans had to cling to over these past 13 years of losing has been hope. Hoping Geno Smith would be good. Hoping Sam Darnold would be good. Hoping Zach Wilson would be good. Then getting Aaron Rodgers and almost knowing they would be good. They were never good. They were never average. They were only bad, bad, bad, bad, bad.

I've reached the point where I kind of hate rooting for this team a little bit. It sucks watching other teams make the playoffs. It sucks even more watching bad teams like the Bills and 49ers become great while we stay awful. It's like being in a time machine where you stay the same but everything around you quickly builds up and grows. You see dynasties rise and fall while you put up another 5 or 7 win season.

How do you even fix this? Trade every asset for draft picks and start from scratch? You can't go into another season wishing on Aaron Rodgers. He's not even good and who knows if he can stay healthy? I think Garrett Wilson is pretty great but what good is holding on to him if the rest of the team sucks? I also have no confidence anyone on this team is good. The defense and especially Sauce Gardner seem to have taken a huge step back this season.

I can't drink the green Kool-Aid anymore. Yes, Greg "The Dead Leg" Zuerlein has missed all sorts of kicks this year. The Jets have also now lost 5 games in a row. They just lost to the New England Patriots, who not only have zero offensive weapons but a head coach who has the locker room in total disarray. Jacoby Brissett turning into Patrick Mahomes and driving the down the field throwing to someone I never heard of named Kayshon Boutte is why the Jets lost.

I'm not even really mad anymore. I'm just bummed out and getting more and more apathetic with each passing week. Why make an effort to watch this team when all they do is let you down. I don't even mean not winning a title. 31 NFL teams have their seasons end and let us down. I understand that. Watching the Jets for the past 13 seasons means you are watching a product that isn't close to being competitive.

Every franchise has ups and downs. That's part of being a sports fan. You're there when things are bad so when things improve, you can enjoy them even more. It's like they say in Vanilla Sky, you can't have the sweet without the sour.

But what if it's only sour? What if it's just constant disappointment? I am tired of hoping. I don't want to hope the next Jets QB is good. I just want him to be good. I don't blame Joe Douglas for the moves he made. I liked them at the time. But they didn't work. Nothing works.

Maybe one day it will? They can't be awful forever. Then again, I never thought you'd see a NFL team go 13 seasons without making the playoffs when 14 of 32 teams make it. I'm likely more than halfway through my life. I've never seen this team even make a Super Bowl. At some point, you have to wonder if that'll ever be in the cards.

This is the new rock bottom for the Jets. It's one thing to miss the playoffs. It's another thing to lose hope that they ever will.
