O Canada: Zamboni Driver In Quebec Gets Arrested For Resurfacing The Ice Under The Influence

Global News -- A Zamboni driver in western Quebec has been arrested on suspicion of impaired driving after a low-speed crash at a hockey rink on Monday.

Police in the region say the 25-year-old man was arrested after he drove the ice-resurfacing machine into the boards at a rink in Chelsea, Que., while cleaning the ice between two games.

Alright so listen. I think driving drunk is one of the most selfish decisions that any low-life piece of human shit could ever make. In a world with so many rideshare options and other forms of public transportation, it is inexcusable behavior to get behind the wheel of a vehicle while you're buckled.

With that being said...I think a Zamboni is the only vehicle that you should be able to have a few drinks while you're driving. I always just assumed that was part of the job description. You hang out at the rink all day, crush some beers while the 10 and 12-year-olds are out on the ice, cruise around for a few laps to clean off the ice, crack open another beer, rinse & repeat.

Sure, there might be the occasional crash or two. But nobody should be on the ice while the Zamboni is out there anyway. Every rink makes that perfectly clear that you can't get on the ice until the doors to the little Zamboni garage are closed. I figured every rink makes such a big deal out of that because they know every Zamboni driver is drunk off their ass.

The man seems pretty innocent to me. Maybe a slap on the wrist is appropriate here, but sure as shit not handcuffs.
