Sebastian Stan Snaps Back At Marvel Haters: "Don’t Shit On Something Without Offering Something Better.”

Variety- “It’s become really convenient to pick on [Marvel films]. And that’s fine. Everyone’s got an opinion. But they’re a big part of what contributes to this business and allows us to have smaller movies as well. This is an artery traveling through the system of this entire machinery that’s Hollywood. It feeds in so many more ways than people acknowledge.”

“Sometimes I get protective of it because the intention is really fucking good. It’s just fucking hard to make a good movie over and over again.”

What an unbelievably reasonable take from one of Hollywood's best actors, Sebastian Stan. In a world where every Marvel headline is either calling the studio the "best" or "worst" thing to ever happen to humanity (and I'm obviously guilty of that as well, on the positive side) - Sebastian Stan just flat out says, "Making movies is fucking hard and sometimes it doesn't work."

Fans shitting on Marvel's post-Endgame output is one thing, and that's fine - but when industry filmmakers and producers and actors start complaining that Marvel movies take up too many screens at the movie theater, leaving less room for indie features to succeed and shit, they lose me. They try to talk down on the movies as "not cinema" despite millions of fans loving them, being raised on them, raising their children on them, and creating lifelong memories entangled with the most successful franchise since Star Wars…..but they use a little CGI so they're not "real" movies to Scorsese. You know, the guy who put this in the final cut of a movie a few years ago…..

I love ya, Marty, but c'mon - don't throw computed generated stones here. Don't try to pull Marvel down as a whole just because the movies ain't your cup of tea.

You wanna know why Marvel movies take up so many screens? Because they make the most money. You wanna know why people love them so much? Because over the course of 15+ years, they've brought some of the greatest comic book characters of all time to life with actors like Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L Jackson, and more giving amazing, compelling performances. They keep it light, they always include some comedy and a positive message, and they're fun to turn your brain off and watch every few months. Some of them are legitimately great, too! If you can't get down with movies like 'Infinity War', 'Endgame', the first 'Iron Man', 'Guardians of the Galaxy' - that's on you. Maybe they're not up your alley, maybe you don't enjoy superhero movies, but you can't deny what they've built. Obviously it's working.

Plus, for the quality drop they've had recently - they're still putting out shit like 'Loki', 'Deadpool & Wolverine', 'Spider-Man: No Way Home', and 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3'! It hasn't all been bad! The reports on Marvel's demise have been GREATLY exaggerated.
