"Talking 'Bout Best Player In The League, Y'all Trippin" - Anthony Edwards Talking Shit After Barely Beating Jayson Tatum In A Regular Season Game Is Exactly What The NBA Needs

With Netflix's 'Starting 5' documentary series now out as of today, it was only a matter of time before the internet clipped some of the best parts and things started to go viral. When you have never before seen access and some of the best players in the world mic'd up, that's pretty standard.

So far, the clip below from Ant talking about the first matchup between the Celtics and Wolves is doing just that

Now, I'm not going to do what I imagine most of you expected me to do when I first saw this and FREAK OUT. In fact, my stance is the opposite. I love it. This is exactly what I was hoping this series was going to give us and frankly, as I watch more of the episodes it gets me excited for what's to come.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Ant talking this way and feeling confident after a big OT win. As we know, teams beating the Celtics in the regular season last year was their NBA title. Sure it's a little weird to be talking that way in a game Tatum had 32/5 on 54% shooting, but whatever. That's the beauty of competition. Plus, we all know what happened the next time these two teams played

Call me crazy, but I consider talking shit in sports a good thing. Something we need more of if we're being honest. Talk your shit and then let's see if you can rise to the occasion and back it up. If that bothers you or Ant talking this way rubs you the wrong way, I'd say grow up. Welcome to sports and welcome to the Anthony Edwards experience. Part of why this upcoming season will be so fun is because now the time has come for Ant to win. All this talking gets old quick if the Wolves continue to not even make a Finals let alone win a title.

This clip (and the series as a whole) also made me think about how badly ESPN/TNT/ABC fumble having players mic'd up during the season. When that happens we usually only get a player screaming or something in warm ups that isn't all that interesting. Give us the good stuff! Give us the trash talking that we all know exists during the game, especially when some of the league's biggest talkers are mic'd up. We shouldn't have to wait for these one-off series on Netflix when I'm pretty sure those networks have the goods during the games. I'd go so far to say I'd even pay more for a channel where they show everything unfiltered. Add to my League Pass fee and I'll gladly pay it.
