Nobody Wants To Believe That Matt Eberflus & The Chicago Bears Have The Best Scoring Defense Since Last November
I fell out of my boat last week when I learned the Bears have the longest home win streak in the NFL. I talked about it extensively here and again here if you want to get caught up. Basic point is that outsiders are severely underrating the robust culture building going on at Soldier Field. Like even if they have a bunch of misfit toys on the interior and JV play calling that would get out-schemed by St. John Fisher... There's just so many problems fundamental to being a Bears fan that we really haven't needed much reminding along the way/last few decades.
That's why it jarred my tits last week to learn the Bears are firmly marching towards Don Shula's 50+ year record of 27-straight home wins.
8 isn't too fuckin shabby if we're being honest
We're always being honest around here, which brings me to my next point.
I honestly had no idea the Bears defense had been that dominant in Points Allowed over the last 11 games. Obviously I'm an Eberflus guy but that's without combing the data. My trust in him required no simulations/calculations or even general statistics. Some times you just look at a guy and know
He gets it.
And at the time of this blog, he's turned the Bears to the top of two notable and distinct measurements of winning: home wins + points allowed. You stack those kind of performances then you really start to open the door for Caleb Williams continued emergence. You give the offense a little pep in their step and the defense another layer to the chip on their collective shoulders. There's so many good things coming from this Bears core under Eberflus's leadership that I'm willing to concede several subsidiary points.
A lot of you are mad about stuff that hasn't happened yet. You're frustrated with his clock management in the playoffs. You don't think he's smart or tough enough or that guys won't follow him to the brink of failure. I've heard and seen a lot over the last couple weeks and I just want it on record that it's a complete waste of time to stress about some nonexistent future event.
Should he completely and directly sabotage a late season playoff run, then by all means please use this blog as a textbook example of why Bears fans don't deserve nice things. But my gut instinct says that day will never come and that's because Eberflus is the right guy. At least for right now and that should be plenty good.
Only thing I don't understand is how the streak works in London. The Bears are listed as the home team officially, so then does that count as a home game in the NFL? I feel like we should get to use it either way we want. If Bears beat the jags, home win streak should go up to 9. Alternatively if they lose, then obviously it shouldn't count because it didn't happen at Soldier Field. That makes the most sense to me but what the fuck do I know? I'm just a Bears fan.
