Joker 2 Is An Absolute Disaster Of A Movie And One Of The Worst Sequels I've Ever Seen

Arthur Fleck is institutionalized at Arkham, awaiting trial for his crimes as Joker. While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur not only stumbles upon true love, but also finds the music that's always been inside him.

When it was originally announced that Joker 2 would be a musical, I was actually pretty excited. A musical seemed like a  unique way to advance the storyline which had been ended in a solid way during the first movie. Well, I am here to report that I was wrong. At least partially.

Like usual, let me break it down into a quick pro and con list for you.

PROS:

- Joaquin Phoenix is really good. Just as good as the last movie but certainly not better.

- The production value is really solid, especially within dream sequences.

- The cinematography is actually better than the first one. There are some inventive shots and really cool long takes.

CONS:

- Todd Phillips refused to commit to making an actual musical which made this movie unbearable. His idea of a musical movie was to have the flow of a drama interrupted every 15 minutes by Phoenix and Gaga half-singing half-loudly talking awful songs that add nothing to the story.

- Regardless of the musical crap, the story itself is insanely boring. It's basically a courtroom drama that gets remotely interesting for like the closing 10 minutes*

- *Those slightly interesting 10 minutes are then ruined by one of the most baffling endings I've seen put to screen. I won't spoil it but you can easily find it online.

Overall, this is one of the biggest disappointments of this year and one of the worst sequels I have seen in recent memory. You know you really fucked up when I'd rather watch Megalopolis again than this.
