This Clip Of Connor McDavid Losing His Damn Mind After A Loss In The Cup Final Is What Wearing The 'C' Is All About

Amazon's new docuseries following the NHL, "Faceoff: Inside the NHL" comes out tomorrow. And holy shit I cannot wait to get to this episode.

You don't get to Connor McDavid's level without being obsessed with being the best from a pretty young age. Whether it's being the best individually or the best team, all they are singularly focused on is winning. Guys like that are just wired differently. Their brain can't even comprehend the idea that other guys wouldn't want it nearly as bad as they do. But great leaders find one way or another to make guys give as much of a shit.

Great captains aren't going to constantly try to be everybody's best friend. You can't be worried about everyone's feelings if you want to be great. It's not, "ah geez, guys. We gave it a heck of a try out there but it just wasn't our night. We'll get 'em back next time!". You can't be a cheerleader who just rah-rah's their way through everything. Great leaders know the importance of accountability, and know that you need to tear into everyone's ass every once in a while if they aren't playing up to the standard.

I'm sure there are some guys on the Oilers' who don't love it. There have to be a few guys in that locker room that aren't crazy about playing with McDavid if this is where his intensity level is at. And I'm also sure that McDavid doesn't give a shit because the only thing he cares about is bringing a Stanley Cup to Edmonton. And after watching that clip, there's not a doubt in my mind that he's going to do it at some point. That locker room after that game 2 loss in the Cup Final seems like the opening scene to an origin story. Might be a good time for every team to start digging the fuck in right fucking now for whenever they have 97 coming up on their schedule.
