Don't Be Surprised If The NBA Drug Tests Greyson Allen After He Supposedly Gained 35 Pounds Over The Offseason

One thing you can set your watch to once we reach the start of a new NBA season is how every single player is somehow in the "best shape of his life". For some it ends up being true, but for most it's sort of just what you say at Media Day to help pander to your fanbase and get everyone excited for the upcoming season.

We also get reports of how much muscle/weight a player supposedly put on or lost, just like we did with guys like Wemby and Joel Embiid

and for the most part, once we saw them both at Media Day the claims weren't too hard to believe. Wemby looked like he put on a little muscle which for him makes a big difference

and I'm my opinion Embiid looked much more in shape compared to what we saw at the Olympics so if he's telling us he lost a bunch of weight, at least the eye test says he looks the part. We'll see how the conditioning looks, but I'd say Embiid came into the season in shape by the looks of things.

Then of course you have a player like Greyson Allen. If I were to tell you that Greyson Allen would put on 35 pounds in three months, would that sound believable to you? I suppose if perhaps his HGH shipment came in, but that seems like a pretty massive amount of weight in a short amount of time. I'm not a trainer by any means, but that sounds suspicious.

This is probably the most obvious NBA drug test in the history of NBA drug tests. As we know, whenever stuff like this starts to come out and players look drastically different, they usually all get the pink slip. Alex Caruso once got one because a fake photoshopped photo of him looking huge went viral

It's not as if Allen was a twig last season, he gives you decent size as a wing if you're a team that doesn't really care about getting defensive stops from your wing position and seeing as how the Suns can't really afford that if they have hopes of winning a title, putting on some muscle (as long as you maintain your foot speed) makes sense

Whether or not it's 35 pounds is a different question. That feels a little extreme and more like his playing weight is finally being updated, because this was Greyson at Media Day

Maybe that's 35 pounds, what do I know? What I do know is we've seen NBA players drug tested for less. The Suns did sign Allen to a 4/70M extension that starts this season, so why not go all in? Get jacked as hell and see if that helps you guard bigger players so you can stay on the floor and not get targeted defensively in a playoff series.

There is of course the downside of what happens when you drastically bulk up that quickly. Your shot can get fucked up because this added weight messes with your form, you lose footspeed and what you gain in strength you lose in speed, so you're just as cooked against quicker, stronger wings. Allen's whole deal on the Suns is to be a 3&D guy, and if he can't fill that role things get dicey pretty quickly. We see added weight screw with guy's shots all the time, so aside from potentially getting busted for HGH or some shit, Allen could also end up ruining his one needed skillset.

Just don't be surprised if we get the Shams bomb that Adam Silver would like Greyson Allen to piss in a cup. That's a no brainer.
