A New Era: Gonzaga Is Finally Leaving The WCC After Years Of Rumors, Joining The New Pac-12 Conference (Which Is Really Just The MWC)

I know that headline might not make the most sense with conferences, but that's the point. Nothing makes sense in college sports anymore. You have the new Pac-12 which is just basically the Mountain West Conference. Seriously. The conference is Washington State, Oregon State, Gonzaga, Colorado State, Boise State, Utah State, Fresno State and San Diego State (so far). Awesome. I mean, yeah, I'm going to watch the shit out of that league in basketball because I'm a loser when it comes to that stuff and what else am I going to do at 11pm on a Tuesday night? Oh, but at the same time the Pac-12 still needs one more football program to keep the conference alive there. Got all of that? Yeah, welcome to college sports.

Everyone wondered when Gonzaga would leave the WCC. If you even somewhat watch college basketball, you know exactly what I'm talking about here. Every February or so, once football was over, people would then scream about how Gonzaga is overrated because they don't play anyone. They can't be a 1 seed in the WCC! Then when they don't win a title those same people take a victory lap about being 'right' and then go back to football. Rinse and repeat for the last 20 years or so. At least they have some decent teams in this conference, but people will still bitch.

I will say, I think I'm at the point where I just don't give a shit about conference realignment anymore. I can't get mad because this is college sports. Nothing makes sense. UCLA, USC, Oregon and Washington are in the Big 10. Rivals with Rutgers and Penn State. Texas and Oklahoma aren't in the same conference as Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, but they get Vanderbilt. I also know conference realignment has been around forever. It's how we ended up with South Florida, Cincinnati, Louisville, etc in the Big East and then Syracuse, Pitt and BC in the ACC. My point being, this all sucks and is stupid. Go back to the way it should be. The original Big East, the 9-team ACC, the original SEC and things like the Big 12 having 12 teams, the Big 10 having 10 teams, etc.
