Tom Brady Responds To Baker Mayfield's Claims That Bucs Players Didn't Have Fun With Him In His Final Season
Tom Brady's final season in Tampa was one of the most frustrating in recent memory. The 2021 Buccaneers were probably the best version of the team, they just got bitten by the injury bug and Antonio Brown had overstayed his welcome towards the end of the year to really finish the job properly with their second straight ring. But in 2022 the Bucs won the division with an 8-9 record and got blown out by the Cowboys at home in the Wild Card round.
They consistently underachieved and were very predictable on offense. The team only really thrived in the hurry up offense that Brady called. Reports were that the team was very tight and had no fun.
Baker Mayfield was asked in a recent press conference about the team having fun and addressed it directly. I am not sure if he knew Brady would be calling the game at the time.
I know that the vibes in 2022 were low. They lost more games than they won! And they were coming off a season they thought they should've won the Super Bowl. Expectations were sky high and they were below average, by definition. Brady knew it was likely his final season. Everything around him was falling apart, including his marriage. Times were tough in Tampa that season. It wasn't all Brady's fault by any means, but I think it's very fair to admit that the team was not having fun before Baker Mayfield got there in 2022.
